Rewards at Kirkby Thore Primary School
We aim for all pupils at KTPS to feel valued and rewarded for their efforts and successes. Each Friday we hold a celebration assembly where individuals are awarded the following:
Reader of the Week (Per Class)
This can be awarded for a stand out moment during guided reading with a member of staff, or, in recognition of effort when reading at home.
Writer of the Week (Per Class)
This can be a recognition of creativity, executive skills, effort or progress. Sometimes we ask that a particular piece which inspired the reward be read aloud in the assembly.
Mathematician of the Week (Per Class)
Mathematics is taught in bespoke groups so there may be more certificates in this category from different members of staff.
Headteacher’s Award
This comes from Mrs Robinson and may be prompted by a one of outstanding observation or be a general reflection of pupil who display our school values on a daily basis.
Pupil of the Week
This is an award for the people by the people! A ballot box and slips are kept in the school hall for pupils to nominate each other for acts of kindness or values displayed.
Pupils receiving certificates in assembly earn 5 points for their house.
House Captains from Y6 count these each week and we celebrate the house with the highest weekly total by allowing them first lunch service, a golden tablecloth and seats (rather than benches) in assemblies for the next week. A cumulative total is calculated for a half termly prize which has been pre agreed by school council e.g. seasonal craft activity, non uniform day or visit to the village park – in this way pupils have a goal to strive for.
