Aim High

Kirkby Thore School

We at Kirkby Thore believe our school to be a very special place. Our children benefit from small classes, a safe environment, clear plans for improvement and development, inter- school collaboration and shared expertise within our cluster and wider trust, supportive parents and wider community links.

We are a traditional primary school placed in the heart of our community with a small and friendly feel.  Set in the shadow of the Pennines, we are inspired to ‘Aim High’ by the landscape around us.  Our school values of being ‘safe, respectful and ready to learn’ help us achieve our very best and these have been expanded into four age-appropriate exemplifications so that all children understand the behaviour and attitudes to learning we expect of them as they progress through the school.  We are committed to creating a friendly, safe and encouraging atmosphere, where everyone feels welcome and valued.

If you would like to contact us to enquire about our school, vacancies or media related enquiries, please do so via the contact details displayed.  We can also provide paper copies of documentation and large print if required.

We won the spring weather lottery this morning! Local Bravoniacum resident and roman expert Gary joined us for a march to the site of the fort. We learned how the local Brigantese, German, Belgian and Syrian troops had learned to live together here in relative harmony and for mutual benefit. Wouldn't you think that almost two thousand years later the world would be able to do the same! Thought provoking and fascinating. We all listened carefully and the younger children were helped to visualise what the field would have looked like by the replica fort Gary brought with him. One of them said "it's a shame Sue (our fabulous cook) doesn't get to do the fun stuff!" What a great experience! ... See MoreSee Less
