PE and Sport Premium

Our PE Curriculum allows us to develop our pupils’ knowledge and skills in a variety of ways:

  • Team work
  • Resilience and perseverance
  • Success and failure
  • Sportsmanship
  • Risk taking
  • Self-awareness
  • Health-awareness
  • Fine and gross motor skills
  • Co-ordination
  • Executive function
  • Knowledge of the rules and skills for particular sports

We believe that high quality PE lessons can support a life-long love of sport and aim to introduce pupils to a wide range of activities so that they can choose ones that they enjoy and are good at.  As well as developing links with local clubs we compete with and against our local cluster schools through the EVA partnership.  Pupils enjoy these opportunities both on a social and competitive level and choose to attend additional training encouraging our pupils to continue with sport out of school.

We invite a variety of coaches into school through-out the year to teach additional sessions prior to an event or competition. Sports Premium funding is also used to fund coaching in short blocks. For example to teach tennis.  We choose instructors who, we believe, also serve as positive role models – such as younger female coaches who promote women in sport and wheelchair basketball to promote diversity and resilience.

Our pupils enjoy a ten week block of swimming from from nursery to Year 6. We believe it is  essential that our children have confidence in water, develop a range of strokes effectively and, by the time they leave in year 6, be able to perform self-rescue should the need arise.

Our outdoor and adventurous curriculum allows pupils to challenge themselves, develop resilience and experience activities they otherwise may not have access to but which they can find in close proximity such as fell walking.

Sports Funding

The school receives a sports premium each year.  The intention of this financial impact is to improve the provision of sport and to encourage a long-lasting love of sport which supports and promotes a healthy lifestyle. This is co-ordinated by Mrs Robinson who is accountable to Ofsted and the Local Governing Board to ensure outcomes for current pupils and a lasting legacy for the school
